RAPE OF THE VAMPIRE (J Rollin)

( Le viol du vampire / Jean Rollin / 1968 )

I've got a soft spot for RAPE OF THE VAMPIRE, which feels influenced by the French New Wave in its free form nature and has a lot more energy than any of Rollin's other films, even if you can quite literally see the joins in the movie.

Originally a short film, RAPE was expanded into feature-length but with the end credits from the short left in tact. The second act just starts again - in the same location, with the same actors - with the Queen of the Vampires turning up (although the plot of the first act is that vampires are imaginary) and very quickly resurrects everybody (although not all the actors seem to be playing the characters they were previously). After this the film gets partying with some kind of plot about medical experiments that require everybody to get nude and run around biting and shooting each other, before a Sadean wedding is put on that, naturelment, requires everyone to bite and shoot each other in the nude. In other words, an acquired taste.
